Hey homie! I’m Michelle, owner and interior decorator here at Michelle Binette Design.
If trying to decorate your home has left you…
- Unsure where to start.
- Second-guessing all your decisions.
- Wishing you actually had time to do it.
- In Pinterest-paralysis.
Then you’re in the right place!
It’s time to love and be proud of your home.
Here’s the deal. Decorating is actually really freaken’ difficult.
It’s decision after decision, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, those decisions impact other decisions. And bad decisions lead to expensive mistakes. Decorating your home requires vision and creativity, amazing project management and planning skills, not to mention time.
I believe you need to love your home. Why? Because loving and being proud of your home has a positive impact on your life and mindset. It brings a sense of pride and calm. It helps you connect, entertain, celebrate and grow. And it all starts with a great vision.
How can you find the time to create that vision when you’re not sure where to start, you’re unable to make a decision or you’re too busy working a full-time job…running a business…or raising a family?
Instead of surfing dozens of websites for furniture, driving from store to store trying to find the perfect sofa, or wondering “does this fabric work with this rug?”…
…schedule a quick chat with me and we’ll discuss your goals and how I can help you finally make progress and start loving your home (and make your friends just a wee bit jealous!).
I specialize in decorating projects, which means I will help you transform your space without lengthy, costly renovations. Or I will help ensure your furnishings and décor match your renovated home.
Clients (many of whom are repeat) love my down-to-earth approach to decorating and fun client experience (read more about what happy clients have to say here).
Combine my attention to client care with my creativity and knack for furniture placement, selecting the perfect furnishings, colours and accessories and you’ve got the perfect recipe to help you finally fall in love and feel pride in your home.
How I got here.
I’ve been surrounded by creativity my entire life, my father, a professional artist, showed me the true meaning of passion. I excelled at art and the creative stuff, often winning awards, but it never lit me up.
After trying to figure out how to use my talents, I decided to pursue graphic design, and although I was pretty good, once again, it fell short on the passion meter (that’s a thing, right?). I eventually transitioned into marketing which felt like the logical next step from graphic design, but the 15 years I spent as a marketer left me feeling empty and uninspired (not to mention stressed and anxious).
It’s embarrassing to admit but it took me 30 years before I would ever feel passionate about anything. Then suddenly after I bought my first condo, passion punched me right in the face. Before I moved into my condo I had drawn floor plans, selected furniture, established art placement, designed my new walk-in closet. The whole nine.
It just flowed through me so naturally.
I then recognized interior design was something I had always enjoyed, growing up I rearranged my room every month, tagged along with my mom to open houses to admire the beautiful interiors of the “rich”.
I quickly engrossed myself in all things interior design. I subscribed to magazines, I bought books. I studied the interiors and deconstructed what I saw, noting every nuance. I watched more HGTV than I’d like to admit. Oddly, it never occurred to me to pursue an interior decorating career, maybe because I assumed that you’re not supposed to love “work” this much?
Then one day a friend said “Your home is beautiful, you should be an interior designer.”.
And just like that, the seed was planted.
Why wouldn’t turn what I love into a career? In that moment I decided to make it my five-year plan. Then in November 2015, when I lost my job, I realized the universe had another plan in store for me, to make my five-year plan, my right-now plan.
I cannot begin to put into words how following my dreams has utterly and completely changed me as a person. Everyday I am grateful that I have been able to transform my life (not to mention confidence), by turning my passion into my career and helping people, like you, transform their lives by creating a home they love and are proud of.
